Old World Imports opened in the spring of 2000, next door to their present location in Nob Hill, two doors east of the historic Lobo Theatre. The shop quickly became a favorite of local designers, neighborhood residents, textile, jewelry, and carpet collectors, set dressers, costume designers, and a crowd of bellydancers.

They certainly are not your typical rug store, committed to finding the most unique and best quality rugs for the money in all price ranges, you don't find filler here. Small scale weaving groups reviving the use of natural dyes in carpets are the shop's pride and joy, but they understand budget and bring the best in affordable rugs with out resorting to gimmicks. The owners are as interested in talking to, and teaching, a first time looker as they are spending hours with a seasoned collector. A movie star, a teacher, or a teenager, all get the same attentive and kind service.

Old World Imports and its online sister store Tribalsouk.com have become a haven for bellydancers, the website is recognized worldwide as a leader in dance costuming and ethnographic jewelry. They regularly bring to Albuquerque the most highly regarded dancers in the world for performances and workshops, with guests traveling from around the planet to attend.

This spring Old World Imports has already mounted an impressive series of events in a number of locations around town including, the Outpost, NHCC, Warehouse 508, Kosmos, the Lobo Theatre, UNM and has many more exciting events planed for the year including more dance workshops and in store Q&A with Tuareg musicians and artists. Of course don't miss their 10th anniversary party and open house, Saturday, May 22, 6-10pm and the shop's specials going on the whole month of May.

Proprietors Duane and Flo Bargar were married in 2005 and met in the late 1990s working in Nob Hill. They both are highly active in neighborhood organizations and city wide in the arts, dance, and music scenes.
